The University of Abuja, through its Centre for Security and Legal Studies, has opened the gate for a new batch of postgraduate students. The call is for professionals and graduates ready to build on their knowledge in areas that touch security, law, and social order. What the Centre stands for
The Centre is more than just classrooms and books. It was set up to give practical answers to rising security challenges within the legal framework. From border safety to cyber threats, the Centre links theory with real issues. It also works hand in hand with both local and international bodies.
List of programmes on offer
Students can pick from a wide range of options, each with different levels of study:
- Borders and National Security (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Criminology and Security Studies (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Crises and Humanitarian Management (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Cyber Security and Data Protection (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Human Rights and Social Justice (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Strategic Security and Protection Management (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Law Enforcement and Regulations Management (Doctorate, Masters, Pg Dip)
- Legal Studies (MIS Executive)
- Security Management (Pg Dip)
- Security Studies (Pg Dip)
- Parliamentary Security Management (Pg Dip)
- Security Operations with specialisations (Advanced Professional Diploma)
Who can apply
There are levels to this, and the entry bar is clear:
- Doctorate Degree – You must have both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from a recognised university.
- Master’s Degree – You need either a postgraduate diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in related fields with at least a Second Class Lower.
- Postgraduate Diploma – You need a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, not below Third Class, with proof of ability and drive to do well.
On top of that, all applicants must have five O’ Level credits including English and Maths.
Duration of programmes
Time matters, and each programme has its own clock:
- Doctorate – minimum 3 years, maximum 5 years
- Master’s – between 18 and 36 months
- Postgraduate Diploma – between 12 and 18 months
How to apply
Everything runs through the UNIABUJA portal. Applications come with a non-refundable fee of N40,000, paid online.
Deadline for submission is Friday, 31 October 2025. The programmes are organised with the International Institute for Security and Governance Studies, Abuja.
