UNIPORT ACE-CEFOR Opens 2025/2026 Postgraduate Admission

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through its World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence in Oilfield Chemicals Research (ACE-CEFOR), has announced the commencement of admission for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Established in 2013, ACE-CEFOR is dedicated to postgraduate training and manpower development in the petroleum and allied industries across Africa. The centre’s programmes are internationally accredited, promoting sustainable development, research excellence, and professional competence in the oil and gas sector.

EducationNGR also learnt that the centre remains one of the few in West Africa offering specialised postgraduate training directly aligned with industry needs.

Ph.D. Programmes at UNIPORT ACE-CEFOR

The Ph.D. programmes are designed for talented graduates interested in tackling complex challenges in petroleum, chemical, and environmental industries. Available doctoral programmes include Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum/Energy Economics, Geology/Geosciences, Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Plant Science and Biotechnology, Microbiology, Process Engineering, Environmental Technology and Management, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Oilfield Biology, Oilfield Chemistry, and Offshore Oilfield Science and Blue Economy.

Admission Requirements: Candidates must hold a relevant M.Sc. degree from UNIPORT or another accredited university, with a CGPA of at least 3.5 on a 5-point scale and a minimum of 3.0 CGPA in their first degree.

Programme Duration: The Ph.D. runs for 36 calendar months and includes both modular coursework and industry-based research projects.

M.Sc. Programmes at UNIPORT ACE-CEFOR

The master’s degree programmes are designed for professionals seeking to upgrade their technical and research competence in oilfield and environmental science disciplines.

Available M.Sc. programmes include Oilfield Chemistry, Oilfield Biology, Offshore Oilfield Science and Blue Economy, and Process Engineering.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must possess a relevant first degree from UNIPORT or any recognised institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 5-point scale, along with credit passes in Mathematics and English Language at O’Level.

Programme Duration: The M.Sc. programme runs for 12 calendar months, covering both coursework and research components.
