Tax Reform Challenge: National Competition for Nigerian Students 2025

The Tax Reform Challenge, organised by the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, invites young Nigerians to participate in a national competition that highlights creativity, knowledge, and insight into Nigeria’s evolving tax reform framework. The initiative aims to promote fiscal literacy and stimulate youth involvement in shaping transparent and accountable governance.

Purpose of the Challenge

  • Raise awareness and encourage learning about tax policies among Nigerian youth.
  • Promote open and factual analysis of tax-related issues.
  • Build a network of informed student ambassadors to drive constructive engagement.
  • Highlight taxation as a shared responsibility between citizens and government.

Who Can Apply

The competition is open to:

  • Undergraduates in Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
  • Graduates currently serving or awaiting mobilisation for the NYSC programme.

Participants may apply individually or through recognised groups such as tax clubs, student associations, or campus journalism groups.

Entry Guidelines

  • Submissions can be in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba.
  • Accepted formats: articles, videos, podcasts, radio pieces, or social media posts focusing on Nigeria’s tax reforms.
  • Entries in local languages must include English translations.
  • Video or audio submissions must not exceed 10 minutes.
  • All content should be factual, educational, and engaging — constructive criticism of the reforms is welcomed.
  • Submission Period: 1 July – 31 December 2025.

Evaluation Criteria

Entries will be judged based on:

  • Objectivity and Balance: Fair and accurate insights.
  • Technical Accuracy: Correct understanding of tax reform laws.
  • Public Engagement: Clarity and creativity in audience connection.
  • Impact and Reach: Measured by public interest, views, and shares.

Competition Format

Stage 1 – Screening

All applicants will take an online test on key tax concepts. The top two performers (male and female) from each institution advance to the next round, alongside reviews of their submitted works.

Stage 2 – Zonal Competitions

Qualified participants will present their ideas before a panel of academics, journalists, tax officials, and committee members. Zonal winners progress to the national finals.

Stage 3 – National Finals

Finalists will compete at a live event broadcast nationwide on TV, radio, and digital platforms. Judges will include policy experts, scholars, and media professionals.

Prizes and Recognition

  • 🥇 1st Prize: ₦5 million
  • 🥈 2nd Prize: ₦3 million
  • 🥉 3rd Prize: ₦2 million
  • Consolation Awards: Top 10 finalists per zone receive tech gadgets, internships, or job offers, and are recognised as Tax Reform Youth Ambassadors.
  • Student Clubs/Associations represented by finalists will also receive ₦2 million each to host tax education events on their campuses.
