Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria Get FG Approval. The Federal Government of Nigeria has granted full operational license to Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) to enable it to operate as a Private University in the country.

The license dated 2nd September, 2024, was jointly signed by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and Acting Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris J. Maiyaki respectively.

Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, acronym (MAAUN). It is the first English speaking university in the Republic of Niger and also the first bilingual university in the Sub-Saharan Africa. it is a large private International university situated in Maradi, Niger. second largest city in Niger Republic, is an institution with a wide range of programs, faculties and departments, offering undergraduate and post graduate degrees in Applied and Basic sciences, in Liberal Arts, in Social and Management sciences. It is a university with a population of over ten thousand under graduates and more than five thousand post graduate students.

About the FG License

The full operational license was granted to the university after it met all the requirements laid down in Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap E3 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and after a satisfactory mandatory probationary period.

With the granting of the license, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has now been registered and permitted to operate statutorily aş a Private University in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) had between 8th and 10th May, 2024 paid an assessment visit to MAAUN for the review of the provisional license earlier issued to the university.

The visit was aimed at assessing the level of compliance with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) and other operational guidelines with a view to determining the issuance or otherwise of a Full (Statutory) License.
