Prof. Wasiu Lawal Named First University Librarian of FUADSI

The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI) in Osun State has appointed Prof. Wasiu Lawal as its first-ever University Librarian. This exciting news highlights another milestone for the new institution and showcases the expertise of a seasoned academic from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

Before this appointment, Prof. Lawal served as a Deputy University Librarian at FUNAAB’s Nimbe Adedipe Library. His journey in library and information science spans over 30 years, starting as a Library Officer at the Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) in 1992. He joined FUNAAB in 1999 and rose through the ranks, earning the title of Professor of Library and Information Studies in 2021.

Prof. Lawal brings a wealth of experience to FUADSI. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Ilorin, a Master’s in Library and Information Studies from the University of Ibadan, and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His academic journey also includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, making him well-equipped to lead FUADSI’s library services.

As a respected scholar, Prof. Lawal has published over 40 articles in local and international journals and presented papers at numerous conferences. He is also a member of key professional bodies, including the Nigerian Library Association, the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria, and the International Federation of Library Associations. His leadership roles include serving as chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Library Association from 2017 to 2021.

In his new role, Prof. Lawal is expected to build FUADSI’s library from the ground up, ensuring it supports the university’s academic and research goals. His appointment is a proud moment for FUNAAB, as it reflects the institution’s contribution to national academic development.
