Overview of the 49th Convocation at OAU
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has officially published the full schedule for its 49th Convocation Ceremony, a multi-day event featuring diploma awards, first degree awards, postgraduate degrees, honorary degrees, convocation lectures, a stage play and special recognitions.
EducationNGR also confirmed that the programme is arranged to help students, families and invited guests properly plan for each day’s activities.

Wednesday 10 December 2025 – Award of Diploma Degrees
Event: Award of Diploma Degrees
Venue: Department of Local Government Studies
Time: 10:00 a.m
This opening day is dedicated to students completing diploma programmes. Family members and guests are expected to arrive early at the venue.
Thursday 11 December 2025 – First Degrees (Administration, Arts, Education, Law, Social Sciences)
Morning Session
Event: Conferment of First Degrees
Faculties: Administration, Arts, Education, Law, Social Sciences
Venue: Oduduwa Hall Amphitheatre
Time: 10:00 a.m
Evening Session
Event: Convocation Play — “Madam Tinubu” by Akinwumi Ishola
Venue: Oduduwa Hall
Time: 7:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m
Graduates from these faculties receive their degrees earlier in the day, followed by a culturally rich stage performance in the evening.
Friday 12 December 2025 – First Degrees (Science, Engineering, Health and Related Fields)
Morning Session
Event: Conferment of First Degrees
Faculties: Agriculture, Computing, Science and Engineering, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Environmental Design and Management, Pharmacy, Science and Technology

Afternoon Session
Event: Convocation Lecture and Distinguished Award
Lecturer: Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
Venue: Oduduwa Hall
Time: 4:00 p.m – 6:00 p.m
This day celebrates graduates from science, engineering and health-focused faculties before moving to an intellectual and award-focused lecture later in the day.
Saturday 13 December 2025 – Postgraduate and Honorary Degrees
Main Ceremony
Event: Conferment of Postgraduate Diplomas, Professional Master’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees, Doctor of Philosophy Degrees and Honorary Degrees

The final day highlights postgraduate scholars, distinguished honourees and the recipient of the prestigious Award of Excellence.
Convocation Luncheon and Theme
A special convocation luncheon will be held under the theme:
“Raising a New Generation of Leaders for the World in such a Difficult Time through University Education.”
This theme captures OAU’s mission to build graduates capable of addressing global and national challenges.
