Nigerian Academy of Engineering Opens 2025 National Innovation Competition

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) has announced the call for entries for the third edition of its National Innovation Competition, inviting engineers, scientists, technologists, and innovators across Nigeria to present groundbreaking solutions to pressing national challenges.

EducationNGR also learnt that the competition seeks to inspire practical creativity, promote applied research, and strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and local innovators working to advance Nigeria’s development.

Focus Areas for 2025

Entries are welcome across fields such as ICT and Telecommunications, Agriculture and Food Processing, Energy and Renewables, Infrastructure Development, Health, Waste Management, Transportation, Mining, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Climate Change, and Manufacturing.

Competition Format and Stages

Stage 1: Submission of Concept Note

Participants are to submit their Concept Notes between Monday, 20 October and Friday, 19 December 2025. Each entry should include:

  • A summary of the innovation and the challenge it addresses
  • The social and economic benefits of the project
  • A description of the engineering or technical processes involved
  • The current stage of development
  • Sketches, diagrams, or photos of the concept
  • Profiles of contributors or partner institutions

Concept Notes should not exceed 20 A4 pages and must be submitted in PDF format. Submissions will be assessed for originality, technical depth, relevance to national priorities, and potential for scalability. Only shortlisted applicants from Stage 1 will proceed to Stage 2.

Stage 2: Submission of Full Proposal

Shortlisted candidates will be given one month to develop and submit their full proposals between Thursday, 15 January and Friday, 13 March 2026. Winners of the competition will be officially announced in June 2026.

Eligibility and Entry Guidelines

The National Innovation Competition is open to:

  • All Nigerians (except Fellows of the Academy)
  • Engineers, Scientists, Technologists, Technicians, and Craftsmen
  • Individuals or collaborative teams
  • Self-nominations and third-party nominations

Entries must demonstrate significant engineering content and address real challenges affecting communities or national development. All Stage 1 submissions should be sent via email to info@nae.ng on or before Friday, 19 December 2025.

Awards and Recognition

Winners will receive cash prizes, plaques, certificates, and national recognition. In addition, EducationNGR gathered that outstanding participants will gain exposure to investors, potential partners, and stakeholders interested in developing their innovations for large-scale impact.
