A Contest That Carries More Than Prizes

Every year, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board sets the stage for young undergraduates to prove their pen is sharp enough to shape conversations. Now in its 8th edition, the essay contest has grown into something students look forward to. For some, it is about the money, no doubt. For others, it is the chance to have their name printed in a magazine that goes far beyond campus walls.

The topic for 2025 is one that carries weight: “Sustaining Local Content Policies in The Transforming Oil And Gas Industry.” That alone tells you the focus is serious, it is not just about writing fancy lines.

Who Can Step Forward

Not every student qualifies. The Board has set the gateposts clearly.

  • Only those in 100 to 200 level in Nigerian universities and polytechnics.
  • Students must show proof, either an admission letter or a signed note from their Head of Department.
  • Essays must be fresh, written for this contest only.
  • No group work, no double entries. Just one essay, one writer.

What’s At Stake

The rewards are not small change.

  • First Prize: ₦1,000,000, a brand-new laptop, and the essay published in Local Content Digest.
  • Second Prize: ₦700,000 and a laptop.
  • Third Prize: ₦500,000 and a laptop.
  • Fourth to Tenth Prizes: Each finalist gets a brand-new laptop.

Certificates will also be given, plus special recognition for essays that stand out.

How To Apply Without Stress

The submission portal opens 1 August 2025 and closes 31 August 2025. Candidates must upload their manuscripts at NCDMB essay registration page.

  • Word limit: 1,500 words.
  • Format: Online only, no hard copies.
  • Do not include personal contact information inside the essay.
  • Submissions by email will not be accepted.
  • Late entries? They go straight to the bin.

How Essays Will Be Judged

The Board is looking for:

  • Clear writing, with correct spelling and grammar.
  • Original thought, not recycled material.
  • Depth, showing understanding of the oil and gas industry.
  • Relevance to the chosen topic.
  • Full respect of contest rules.

A Date To Mark For Winners

The award ceremony is set for 26 September 2025, at the NCDMB headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. That is where names will be called, prizes handed out, and maybe, lives shifted a little.

Apply: Chevening Scholarships To Study in The UK 2025

Applications are now open for the UK Government’s Chevening Scholarship 2026-2027. The award covers tuition, living allowance, travel, and more for a one-year master’s degree at any UK university. Interested persons should review the criteria and apply early.

Chevening Scholarship 2026-2027 now open for applications

Every year, the Chevening Scholarship brings together bright minds from around the globe and sends them off to study in the United Kingdom. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the door is wide open again. It’s more than a grant, it’s a chance to spend a year learning, living, and connecting in a place where cobbled streets and libraries carry centuries of stories.

This scholarship isn’t only about the degree. It’s the people you meet over cups of tea, the cold walks to class, the small talks in corridors, and that feeling of being far from home yet oddly at home.

What the award covers

Chevening is fully funded, so you won’t be juggling tuition fees and rent bills while trying to write essays. It takes care of:

  • University tuition fees
  • A monthly living allowance
  • Travel costs to and from the UK
  • An arrival allowance
  • A homeward departure allowance
  • The cost of one visa application
  • A travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK

All this, so you can focus on learning and, honestly, soaking in the experience.

Who can apply

You stand a chance if you:

  • Are a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
  • Promise to return to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends
  • Have at least two years of work experience (about 2,800 hours)
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme
  • Apply to three eligible UK master’s courses and secure an unconditional offer from at least one by the set deadline

It’s worth noting, if you’ve already studied in the UK with a government-funded award, you’re out of the running this time. Same goes if you have British citizenship, unless it falls under special cases like British Overseas Territory.

When a past master’s isn’t a barrier

Already have a master’s? That’s not a deal-breaker. You can still apply for another, as long as you can clearly show how it links to your work goals and how it could help you make a difference back home.

How to apply

If in doubt, the Chevening FAQ page is a handy place to clear things up.

Apply: Prof Moyo Dely Foundation Scholarship 2025

The Professor Moyo Dely Foundation is offering a partial scholarship for students aiming to join the Nursing programme at The Signature College of Nursing Sciences. Applicants must meet academic and age requirements, show financial need, and be ready for a scholarship test. Read on for full details and how to apply before the August 30 deadline.

Partial Nursing Scholarship at Signature College of Nursing Sciences

It is not every day you see the door swing open for bright students who might otherwise be stuck outside looking in. The Professor Moyo Dely Foundation has thrown in an offer that is hard to ignore — a partial scholarship for those dreaming of a nursing career but short on funds.

Who Can Apply

Let’s cut straight to it. This is not for everyone. The organisers have set some firm boxes you must tick:

  • Age: Between 16 and 28 years.
  • Academic Scorecard: At least 5 O-Level credits in science subjects.
  • JAMB: A score of 140 or higher.
  • Extra Step: You will have to sit for a scholarship test if shortlisted.

It is clear they want sharp minds with a genuine drive, not just anybody passing through.

What You Stand to Get

If your name ends up on the winning side of the list, here’s what is on the table:

  • The scholarship runs for one academic session.
  • Depending on your performance, you could get up to 60% off your fees.
  • To take the performance test, you will need to pay a ₦5,000 processing fee.
  • The test happens at the college campus in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State.
  • Keep your grades high — an Upper Credit CGPA — and you can renew it.

Not bad for something that could change your career path, right?

Why It Matters

Nursing is more than a job. It is long hours, heavy hearts, and moments that can make or break a person. Helping more young people into this field means more hands where they are needed. As the organisers put it, they are looking for “bright, underserved students with a passion for nursing and healthcare.” That is another way of saying they want fighters, not quitters.

Deadline and How to Throw Your Hat In

If you are already thinking this is for you, move fast. Applications close 30 August 2025.

Visit the Professor Moyo Dely Foundation scholarship page to apply. Do not wait until the last minute, you know how these things go — one small delay and the chance is gone.

Caritas Nigeria Essay Competition 2025 for Nigerian Students

Caritas Nigeria is calling for entries from senior secondary students for its 2025 essay competition. The top three winners will receive cash prizes, and their work will be celebrated during the organisation’s 15th anniversary. This post breaks down how to enter and what to expect.

Caritas Nigeria Essay Competition 2025: Here’s How To Join

It’s not every day you get a chance to share your thoughts and maybe walk away with ₦300k. So when something like this shows up, you might want to pause and take a closer look.

Caritas Nigeria has rolled out an essay competition for senior secondary school students across the country. It’s part of their 15-year anniversary, and the theme this year touches something deep:
“How can young people in Nigeria be inspired to create a culture or lifestyle of humanitarianism and be champions of social justice?”

No pressure, right?

What They’re Looking For

This isn’t your average school essay. They want something real. Fresh thoughts. Something personal. They’re calling on students to write from the heart, not from Google or ChatGPT (no offence).

Here’s the catch though — your write-up must:

  • Be original (don’t copy your seatmate, please)
  • Be unpublished and free of plagiarism
  • Stick to 350 words
  • Include your full name, your parent or guardian’s phone number, and the contact of your school principal or vice principal

They’re serious about knowing who you are and how to reach you.

Who Can Apply?

The gate is wide open if you’re:

  • A student in senior secondary school
  • Living anywhere in Nigeria

Public school, private school, day school, boarding school — as long as you’re still in SS1 to SS3, you can go for it.

Prizes for the Top 3

Now, let’s talk money. Three winners will be picked, and they’ll walk away with:

  • 🥇 First Prize – ₦300,000
  • 🥈 Second Prize – ₦200,000
  • 🥉 Third Prize – ₦100,000

Not bad for 350 words, right?

The winners will be celebrated on 25th September 2025, during Caritas Nigeria’s 15th anniversary event. Imagine your name being called out at a national event. Vibes.

How To Send In Your Entry

No long process. Just email your essay to:
CN15thAnniversaryEssays@ccfn.org

That’s it.

No portals, no forms, no drama. Just type your essay, double-check everything, attach it, and hit send.

Deadline to Keep in Mind

The final day to submit is 5th September 2025. Don’t miss it. Even if you finish writing today, maybe sleep on it, revise tomorrow, and send it before the deadline sneaks past.
