AIFUE
Alvan Ikoku FUE Debunks False Report on Admission Figures

The Management of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, has strongly debunked a viral online report claiming that the institution admitted only 942 students for the 2024/2025 academic session, describing the publication as “malicious,” “puerile,” and “fabricated.”

In an official statement released on November 9, 2025, by the university’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Nnaemeka Ijioma, AIFUE dismissed the report — published on theglittersonline.com.ng and circulated via Opera News — as baseless and misleading. The institution emphasized that the false claim, which alleged a link between the supposed low admission figure and potential loss of TETFund support, was a deliberate attempt to discredit the university.

EducationNGR gathered that the university has publicly announced its correct admission figure of 2,428 students during its historic first matriculation ceremony held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the University Pavilion in Owerri. The event was attended by thousands of students, parents, staff, dignitaries, and members of the press.

During the ceremony, the then Acting Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the institution admitted 2,383 Bachelor’s degree students and 45 Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) students — a figure widely reported by credible media outlets including The Nation Newspaper and verified on www.alvanikoku.edu.ng, the university’s official website.

AIFUE clarified that all admissions were processed strictly through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). This system, the university explained, ensures transparency and prevents any external manipulation. Therefore, the claim of admitting only 942 students was “implausible and unverifiable.”

The institution also reminded the public that it has been training degree students since 1981 under its former affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and currently has a student population of nearly 10,000, including UNN-affiliated students.

For the 2025/2026 academic session, AIFUE has already released two admission lists, admitting nearly 2,000 students. Following JAMB’s extension of the admission deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025, the university said it is finalizing its intake and encouraging qualified candidates to change their first choice to AIFUE via the JAMB portal.

The university offers a variety of B.A., B.Ed., and B.Sc. degree programmes across the Arts, Education, Sciences, and Technology, and prospective students can obtain further details on its official website (www.alvanikoku.edu.ng).

Highlighting its strong institutional framework, AIFUE noted that it boasts experienced lecturers, modern laboratories, workshops, studios, and one of the best-equipped libraries in Imo State, including a functional e-library system. Additionally, four hostels are undergoing major rehabilitation funded by TETFund, underscoring the university’s commitment to quality education and student welfare.

In a firm tone, the university demanded the immediate retraction of the false article by theglittersonline.com.ng and an unreserved public apology, warning that failure to comply will result in legal action.

AIFUE concluded by urging the public, stakeholders, and prospective students to disregard the fake publication and rely exclusively on information from its official communication channels for credible updates.

New students are advised to take the occasion seriously, demonstrating respect, discipline, and dedication to their studies. Staff members and the broader university community are also encouraged to support and guide the new intakes as they begin their academic journey.
